In the name of God Amen. I Sophia GOODWYN of the parish of Saint Martin in the Fields mindful of my mortality do this 9h day of April in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty do make and publish this my Last Will and testament in manner following.

I give and bequeath to William COOKE Esquire of Lincolns Inn my watch and chain for his own use.

Bequeath to the said William COOKE Esquire all my personal estate whatsoever or wheresoever In trust to sell and dispose of the same or as much thereof as may be found necessary for the payment of my just debts funeral expenses and the charges incident to the administration of this my Will and afterwards In Trust to place out the residue that shall arise from the sale of these said effects at Interest in such manner as he shall think proper to be disposed of as hereinafter mentioned and if the said William COOKE should not think it necessary to sell the whole of my said effects for the payment of the expenses aforesaid or any other account I give him hereby full power to exercise his discretion in the sale of my said personal estate then  I will and desire him to receive the rents and profits of any leasehold houses and after deducting all necessary expenses for repairs to pay the same together with the interest of such part of my personal property as he may have turned into cash and placed out at interest to his father John COOKE Esquire formerly of Rookes Nest in the County of Surrey for and during the term of  his natural life and after the decease of the said John COOKE then I bequeath all my said personal effects to the said William COOK Esquire and I do hereby constitute and appoint the said William COOKE sole executor of this my last Will and Testament written by my hand Sophia GOODWYN.

On this day 29th April 1789

Appeared personally Thomas GOODWYN of Hosier Lane in the Parish of Saint Sepulture London Goldbeater and William ALLISON of Crutched Friars in the parish Saint Ave Hart Street London Wine Merchant and being sworn on the holy evangelist made oath they knew and were well acquainted with Sophia GOODWYN late of the parish of Saint Martin in the Fields in the County of Middlesex spinster deceased and her manner and character of hand writing and subscription having often seen her write and subscribe her name and having carefully viewed and perused the paper writing hereunto annexed purporting to be her Last Will and Testament of the said deceased beginning thus “In the name of God Amen. I Sophia GOODWYN of the parish of Saint Martin in the Fields” ending thus “this my last Will and Testament written by my hand Sophia GOODWYN” do depose and say that they verily and in their consciences believe the whole body [?] and contents of the said Will and the name “Sophia GOODWYN” thereunto subscribed to be all of the proper handwriting and subscription of the said Sophia GOODWYN deceased. The said Thomas GOODWYN and William ALLISON were duly sworn to the truth of this affidavit before me William BATTINE Surrogate [?] Rob SLADE.

This Will was proved at London the twenty second day of May in the year of our Lord 1789 before the Worshipful John NICHOLL Doctor of Laws and Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Sir William WYNNE, Knight,  Doctor of Laws, Master Keeper or Commissionary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of William COOKE, the sole executor named in the said Will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the deceased having being first sworn duly to Administer.
