Dear Sir/Madam,
I found the information about a family member (below) on the Latter day Saints site. I wanted to find some more information about him…Was this a military camp/prison? He seems too young to be a soldier? He does not appear on searching your 1861 census?
Name Henry Hall
Sex Male
Age 15
Event Date 1861
Event Place Wanborough, Surrey, England, United Kingdom
Event Place (Original) Farnborough, Surrey, England
Registration District Farnborough
Event Type Census
Birth Year (Estimated) 1846
Birthplace Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
Marital Status Single
Occupation Soldier
Relationship to Head of Household Prisoner
Household Identifier 639409
Line Number 14
Page Number 9
The census index on these pages only covers the village Wanborough Surrey. I have checked the 1861 census and confirmed Henry Hall was indeed a solider imprisoned at Farnborough. The reference to Wanborough seems to be incorrect.
Dear Marcus,
Many thanks for you reply and clarification.
I think my ancestors, at that time, were so poor that crime and disobedience were second nature!
Henry’s brother, Edwin Hall ( my direct ancestor) was transported to Australia for 7 years in 1866!
I think we have been on the right side of the Law since then.
Best Wishes
Barry
