To the Right honourable ? ? of Nottingham Lord High Chancellor of England

Humbly complaining [showeth?] unto your Lordship your [?] Orator John LOVE of Puttenham in the County of Surrey [?] an infant under the age of one and twenty years by Richard WHITE Gent had next friend and guardian which John LOVE is  //

Administrator of and singular the goods and chattels of James LOVE late of Wanborrow farm in the said county gent that the said John LOVE being in his life time possessed of a farm and called Wanborrow Farm in the said County of //

Surrey being about the yearly value of three hundred pounds or [near?] thereabouts and being also possessed of a great stock being upon and about the said farm considering of [crops?] upon and in the barn, cattle and unplanted   //

Of husbandry amounting to the [?] and [annual?] value of sixteen hundred pounds at the lease and the said James LOVE having an intent to [dispose?] with the said farm and stock and William HICKFOLD or Worplesdon in the said County yeoman did apply //

Himself to the said James LOVE there abouts and did agree and concluded with him for and ? the same. And articles of agreement were made and agreed unto and signed sealed and executed by and between the said James LOVE and William LICKFOLD //

Bearing date on or about the sixth day of May in the year Our Lord one thousand seventy four [1674] whereby the said James LOVE did bargain and sell unto the William LICKFOLD all and all manner of devise? which he had sowon? at //

[?] in and upon Wanborrow farm and all his goods chattels without ? of what kind and nature so ever the same ? about or belonging to Wanborrow Farm ? seven hundred [shtyd?] plantes, nine and fifty ? Hereford //

Oxen [steers?], young cattle six weaned calves, twenty carthorses [sults?] and mares, forty hogs and all his waggons, carts, ploughs, wheeled harrows, sacks and also twenty fletches of bacon, two quarters of malt, and all the tools belonging to //

The Surveyed  [shop?]  with all manner of implements of husbandry about or belonging to the said farm except two cows, two hogs, eight bushel of wheat and half the poultry and it was thereby agreed that the said William LICKFOLD should pay //  

Or cause to be paid to the said James LOVE his expenses […] the sum of one thousand four hundred pounds of lawful English money in manner following that is to say seven hundred pounds thereof upon the four and twentieth day of //

June then next answering and seven hundred pounds residue thereof upon the nine and twentieth day of September then also next occurring. And it was further thereby agreed between them that if it should happen the sad James LOVE and William LICKFOLD //

Or either of them to be any ways unsatisfied in the bargain aforesaid that  Henry CLIFTON of Worplesdon aforesaid should have and thereby had full power to [inquire] in either [?] any sum of money and the said Henry CLIFTON should in reason  [?] //

Fitting either party to pay to the other as by the said Articles had your Orator the same to […] fully appear. And the said William HICKFOLD did in [?]and presence of the said bargain enter into and upon the said farm and [?] //

And did pay and satisfy to the said James LOVE some small part and portion of the said sum of fourteen hundred pounds and pretended himself ready and willing to pay and answer the residue thereof but [?] the said William LICKFOLD to [?]//

Advantage of the great power given to the said Henry CLIFTON in and by the said articles [?] the said William HICKFOLD did not only refuse to pay and satisfy to the said James LOVE the great part of the said fourteen hundred due and //

Payable as aforesaid but did pretend himself unsatisfied with the said bargain did apply himself to the said Henry CLIFTON and did [?] with him as your orator is informed to give some judgement [?] to make some award or determination //

To which the same who as the said William LICKFOLD pretended did on or about the five and twentieth days of October in the year of our Lord One thousand six hundred and seventy nine [1679] take upon him in judgement and determination that the said James LOVE should pay unto //

The said William LICKFOLD the same sum of five hundred pounds of lawful money of England and that the said [?] should give general release such to other of all demands between them until the five and twentieth day of January in the year //

Of our Lord one thousand six hundred and seventy nine [1679] whereas if any such determination was made by the said Henry CLIFTON the same was made by combination had between the said William LICKFOLD and Henry CLIFTON and without hearing the said //

James LOVE or any reasonable cause of dissatisfaction by the said William LICKFORD [?] the said bargain [?] that the same was  [?] much [?] to his sold then by the said Articles the said William LICKFOLD was to give or did give for the same //

And the said farm and stock was quickly enjoyed and possessed of by the said William LICKFORD. And the said James LOVE about two years since died leaving a very small and inconsiderable and personal estate and having in his life time [?] money and //

A great debt and ? the said unsatisfied at the time of his decease by and after whose decease administration of the goods chattels and personal estate which was of the said James LOVE at the time of his decease was in due [from?] of law //

Granted admitted unto your said [Orator?] who possessed himself thereof and disposed of the same to the same to and for the due [?] payment of the debts the said James LOVE at the time of his and did request of the said William LICKFOLD //

Payment of so much of the said sum of fourteen hundred pounds as was not satisfied to the said James LOVE in his life time which was use for him to do. But now so it is may it please Lordship that the said William LICKFOLD having //

? and confederated himself to and with the said Henry CLIFTON and with diverse other people to your Orator yet unknown whose names when discovered your Orator prays may be inserted into the Bill and they would [?] there out with //

Apt would to charge them they the said confederates do not only pretend the said fourteen hundred pounds was fully paid and satisfied by the said William LICKFOLD to the said James LOVE in his life time at or near the time the same was //

Payable by the said [?] but did pretend the said William LICKFORD was at a great loss by and with the said bargain by the means or default of the said James LOVE and that for or in respect thereof the said Henry CLIFTON did //

Make some amend or determination whereby he hath ordered the said James LOVE to pay to the said William LICKFOLD two hundred pounds at a day now being since past and without any notice thereof given to the said James LOVE in his //

Life time in to your Orator since his death) until about two months since at which time the said  confederates caused your Orator to be arrested on the said Articles and did threaten to [proceed?] there upon whereby many of [creditors] //

Of the said James LOVE and likely to be defeated of their ? debts all which proceedings of the said confederates and contrary to all equity and good conscience and being [?] and [?] [?] your Orator is not [reliable?]  herein [?] //

Then before your Lordships in their Honourable Court and the same and not discovered otherwise then by the [?] of the confederates In tender consideration whereof in the [suit?] the said confederates may true and expert answers make //  

To all and any the premises and may set forth the said articles with the dates and contents thereof and whether the said William LICKFOLD did pay and satisfy to the said James LOVE in his life time the said  fourteen  pounds //

As any and what parties whereof and when his intent and in what manner and whether any and what award and determination was made by the said Henry CLIFTON and when [?] what manner and upon and for what consideration //

And what ? are thereby made payable and to whom and at what time and what other thing or things are thereby directed and appointed to be done and may by the [?] of this High Court be stayed from any further //

proceeding against your Orator Law trusting the same and may pay and answer to your Orator for much of the said fourteen hundred pounds as is not  yet paid or satisfied. And your Orator may be [relived?] in all and [?] the premises //

According to equity and good conscience may it please your Lordships the premises considered to grant unto your Orator his [?] writ of subpoena under seal of this this honourable Court to be directed unto the said William LICKFOLD and Henry CLIFTON //

Commanding they at certain day and under a certain pain therein to be limited personal to be and appear  before your Lordship in this High and Honourable Court of Chancery to make a true direct and expert answer upon their [?] //

To all and singular the premises and to stand such order and ? therein as in Lordship shall form [?]. And your Orator shall duly pray. //
