Statement followed by a letter from Charles Howard Earl of Nottingham, the Court at Greenwich, to Sir William More, Loseley. The detailed statement relates to fourteen deer ‘put out’ from Wanborough Woods, over Guildown to Shoelands near Puttenham, hunted with hounds by More’s servants and local men; over fifty men were present the next day in ‘an uproar’. Only four deer returned to Guildford Park. Nottingham asks More to investigate ‘this outrage’ without prejudice, and send him word back, so they can be punished. HMC p.658a  6729/9/71  8 Jul 1598

Letter from Charles Howard Earl of Nottingham, the Court, to Sir William More. He acknowledges More’s letter on the report of More’s men hunting escaped red deer, and concludes it was not as great an issue as first reported, nor was it in the royal Park. He notes More’s disgust over his own men’s behaviour and leaves More to take his own action, but the other men shall not escape. Damaged. HMC p.658a  6729/9/72  16 Jul 1598
