M10225 1918 9/8/1918 Assistant Secretary – Insurance – Correspondence from War Risks Insurance Office relating to negotiations for the insurance of Danish Shipping.Previous Paper 3386/5739.

Memo – refers to the court case of the “Canadia” whilst proceeding from Galveston to Christiania, after the vessel was stopped by an English Cruiser and an Officer placed on board. The Captain was ordered to steer between the Shetlands and Fair Isles to Kirkwell. The steamer was out of her course and the Captain suggested that she should be stopped. The Naval Officer said this was not possible owing to the danger of German Submarines and the ship proceeded to run ashore. The Court held that the loss was one falling on the War Risk Policy.

Translation of judgement re S.S. “Asger Ryg”. Judgement of “Maritime and Commercial Court” Copenhagen. 23rd May 1917. Ship of the “Skjalm Hvide” company in liquidation. “On the 4t April 1917 the steamship “Asger Ryg” left Tyne dock with a full cargo of coal bound for Algiers. On the 6th April she passed Beachy Head, since then nothing has been heard from the ship or her crew. However on the 9th April 1917 a badly damaged boat bearing the name of “Asger Ryg” was found adrift in the Channel S.E. to the Isle of Wight.“

Translation of judgement re ss “Kong Helge”. Judgement of “Maritime and Commercial Court” Copenhagen, on 17th July 1915. On 19th December 1914 on a voyage from Iceland to Denmark with a cargo of horse was stopped by an English patrol boar and subsequently as a prize taken to Leith in charge of an English naval officer and with English prize crew.

Translation of judgement re ss “Chr. Christensen”. Judgement of “Maritime and Commercial Court” Copenhagen, on 17th July 1915. On the 16th February 1915 in the morning the steamer “Chr. Christensen” en route from Asrhua to New York in ballast struck the ground near Longstone. The ship was completely destroyed. She was insured in to an amount 120,000 Kroner.
